This 18 day tour takes you along the off the beaten path to give you an insight into tribal living, while taking you past some of the other historical, cultural and architectural gems of Orissa. The tour begins from Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, where you will be taken to see the Kali Temple of Kalighat, Birla Temple, Victoria Memorial Hall, St. John Cathedral Church, Howrah Bridge & flower Market. Next day, board the flight to Bhuvneshwar, the capital of Orissa and on landing visit some famous ancient temples. Next, visit Dhauli the peace pagoda, Pipli the applique village & Konark Sun temple and go to the Chilka Lake for a boat ride to Birds Island. See Taptapani the hot sulphuric spring & Saura tribal villages and hike through the Desia Kondh and Kuhi Kondh villages. Visit the weekly market of Paraja tribes, see the magnificent Jagannath temple and the Chandragiri Buddhist Monastery. You will also visit Olasingh textile village where you can see craftsmen at work and shop for some textiles. The tour will also take you to Dhenkanal enroute visiting Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri & Udaigiri Buddhist site. You will also get an opportunity to stay at Dhenkanal palace and from there visit Nuapatna textile village & Sadeibarini Dhokra Craft village.
Day – 1 (Arrive Kolkata)
On arrival at Kolkata transfer to hotel. Later half day sightseeing of Dakshineswar Kali temple, Belur Math & Jain temple. Overnight stay at Kolkata.
Day – 2 (Kolkata)
Morning proceed for full day sightseeing of Kolkata including visit to Kali Temple of Kalighat, Birla Temple, Victoria Memorial Hall, St. John Cathedral Church, Indian Museum, Dalhousie Square, Howrah Bridge & flower Market. Overnight stay at Kolkata.
Day – 3 (Kolkata – Bhubaneswar)
Morning transfer to airport to board the flight for Bhubaneswar. On arrival at Bhubaneswar airport transfer to hotel. Later half day sightseeing of tribal museum ( closed on Monday ) , Khandagiri & Udaigiri Jain caves. Overnight stay at Bhubaneswar.
Day – 4 (Bhubaneswar)
Morning visit to Nandankanan Zoo ( closed on Monday, Famous for open white tiger safari ). Afternoon visit to famous city temples including Lingaraj ( it was built in 1114 AD to the glory of Shiva & is the biggest temple in Bhubaneswar), Parsurameswar( built in 650 AD, is one of the oldest temples existing in Bhubaneswar & typical example of the Orissan style of temple architecture), Mukteswar (known as the “Gem of Orissan architecture) & Rajarani temple ( it was constructed in the 10th and 11th century from reddish gold sandstone called ‘Rajarani’ in the local dialect). Overnight stay at Bhubaneswar.
Day – 5 (Bhubaneswar – Puri)
Morning drive to Puri enroute visit Dhauli the peace pagoda, Pipli the applique village & Konark Sun temple. Proceed to Puri and check in to the hotel. Evening visit to Jagannath temple ( non hindus are not allowed ). Overnight stay at Puri.
Day – 6 (Puri – Konark – Puri)
Morning visit to Jagannath temple (from the roof top as non hindus are not allowed). Then drive to Konark to visit the Sun temple (one of the world famous heritage site & famously known as Black Pagoda). Enroute visit to Ramchandi temple & Chandrabhaga beach (one of the finest beaches with a long stretch of clean sands & the beach has its own lovely serenity). Return back to Puri. Evening visit to beach market. Overnight at Puri.
Day – 7 (Puri – Chilika lake – Gopalpur)
Morning visit to Chilika lake (non hindus are not allowed). Then drive to Chilika lake at Barkul ( the largest brackish water lake ). At Chilika take the boat cruise to visit the Birds Island. Then proceed to Gopalpur &check-in to the hotel. Overnight stay at Gopalpur.
Day – 8 (Gopalpur – Rayagada)
Morning drive to Rayagada enroute visit Taptapani the hot sulpheric spring & Saura tribal villages . On arrival at Rayagada check in to the hotel. Overnight at Rayagada.
Day – 9 (Rayagada – Majhiguda – Rayagada)
Morning drive to Majhiguda to see the weekly market of Dongriya Kondh ( market commence on Tuesday only ). Also visit to Debgiri tribal village. Then visit to Paikapada to see the Shiva temple of 9th Century. Drive back to Rayagada enroute hiking of Desia Kondh village. Overnight stay at Rayagada.
Day – 10 (Rayagada – Jeypore)
Morning drive to Kuhi Kondh village and do hiking upto 1km. Then visit to Podagrah weekly market of Bada Paraja & Mali tribes (Market commence on Wednesday only ) . Also visit to Janiguda tribal village. On arrival at Jeypore check in to the hotel & Overnight stay.
Day – 11 (Jeypore – Onkadelli – Jeypore)
After breakfast, drive to Onkadelli to visit the famous Bonda tribes (weekly market commence on Thursday only), who comes once every week for their weekly market. It is a unique opportunity to see such a colorful concentration of typical tribals at one place. Most interesting is to watch the Bonda woman in their colorful Jewellaries and marketing commodities.Then drive back to Jeypore. Overnight at hotel in Jeypore.
Day – 12 (Jeypore – Kunduli – Jeypore)
After breakfast, drive to Kunduli to visit the weekly market of Paraja tribes ( weekly market commence on Friday only ) . It is the biggest market of the tribal area. Back to hotel & Overnight stay.
Day – 13 (Jeypore – Rayagada)
Morning after breakfast visit to Jagannath temple ( non hindus are allowed ) & tribal museum at Koraput. Then drive to Rayagada enroute visit Bada Paraja & Mali tribal villages. On arrival check in to the hotel. Overnight at Rayagada.
Day – 14 (Rayagada – Gopalpur ( 250 kms/ 10hrs including drive & sightseeing ))
Morning drive to Gopalpur enroute visit Chandragiri the Buddhist Monastery. On arrival check in to the hotel. Overnight stay at Gopalpur.
Day – 15 (opalpur – Bhubaneswar)
Morning drive to Bhubaneswar enroute visit Olasingh textile village. Check in to the hotel. Afternoon visit to Ekamra haat. Overnight stay at Bhubaneswar.
Day – 16 (Bhubaneswar – Dhenkanal)
Morning drive to Dhenkanal enroute visit Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri & Udaigiri the Buddhist site. On arrival at Dhenkanal check in to the Palace & Overnight stay.
Day – 17 (Dhenkanal)
Morning visit to Nuapatna textile village & Sadeibarini Dhokra Craft village. Back to Palace. Afternoon visit to Joranda Gadhi (to see the Mahima cult). Back to Palace & Overnight stay.
Day – 18 (Dhenkanal – Bhubaneswar & departure)
Morning drive back to Bhubaneswar and drop to airport for onwards journey.
